2017 Hawaii Hemp Conference

The inaugural Hawaii Hemp Conference offers global insight into creating a local hemp industry

Loveland, CO -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/18/2017 -- "Go for it" is the motto for the brain trust of this hemp extravaganza hitting the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel June 10, the location of the 2017 Hawaii Hemp Conference.

"The time is now to get into hemp," says event producer Morris Beegle. "Sales continue to grow by 25-30% annually on the mainland, over 30 states have passed pro-hemp legislation, and Hawaii is about to come online in a big way." This educational conference features the #LetsTalkHemp Speaker Series and is produced by Colorado Hemp Company and presented by Functional Remedies.

Event keynote speaker Doug Fine, hemp farmer, investigative journalist, TV producer, and author of Hemp Bound, First Legal Harvest, and Too High to Fail , says "Hawaii's Governor has set an expressed goal of food independence for the Aloha State, and hemp can, should and hopefully will be a cornerstone of that effort." Fine will host #LetsTalkHempHawaii with multiple keynote presentations and engaging panels covering a broad range of topics important to farmers, processors, manufacturers, legislators, entrepreneurs, and investors interested in participating in the emerging Hawaii Hemp industry.

Along with speakers, panels and practical demos in hemp construction, health and wellness, and local soil regeneration, the weekend activities includes farm field visits on Sunday June 11, where common to complicated questions will be answered by expert local farmers.

If you are interested in farming in Hawaii, be sure to attend the panel discussion "After Sugar: Making a Living from the Soil" with hemp, microgreens, sugar cane, canoe plants and regenerative farming, moderated by Hawaii Farmers Union president Vincent Mina. The panel features other Hawaiian locals including "Ginger" John Caverly, Bobby Pahia, and Greg Smith.

The Future of Hemp Legislation in Hawaii Panel will include State Representatives who have supported hemp cultivation and production in Hawaii. Senator Mike Gabbard, Representative Richard Creagan, and Senator Russell Ruderman will discuss the current hemp legislation and what's to come through the HDOA Pilot Program. Hear from Representative Cynthia Thielen who has advocated a local hemp program since the 1990's, and U.S. Congressional Representative Tulsi Gabbard, co-sponsor of HB525 - The Industrial Hemp Farming Act at the federal level. Both pro-hemp women will make an appearance via recorded video.

Additional support and sponsorship for the education, economic and regulatory development segment of the conference programming comes from The Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA), who is working closely with local stakeholders and state and federal agencies to ensure a well-defined and successful Hawaii Hemp program.

Be sure to experience the mini-expo and marketplace, which is free and open to the public on June 10 from 10 am - 5 pm where you can find organic, sustainable hemp products and services. See what can really be made from hemp and how people are creating a new industry from this beneficial plant. Products include bodycare, clothing, food and supplements, animal treats, nutraceuticals, paper, building materials, bioplastics, chemical replacement ingredients, nano-fiber technologies, and more.

Hawaii Hemp Conference includes additional networking and entertainment activities including a welcoming E Komo Mai Happy Hour, Dinner and Concert on Friday June 9. Live music from "Off the Grid", "Lava" and "Green Flash" will get the weekend started on a high note. Saturday night June 10 offers up another networking, dinner and after conference party with musical artist Damon Williams. On Sunday, June 11 there will be A Hui Hou (Farewell) Brunch with live jazz followed by a Hawaii Farm Tour to conclude the inaugural Hawaii Hemp Conference.
