Kawacatoose First Nation & Digital Buffalo Ltd. of Saskatoon are leading the way in Saskatchewan to host the first Indigenous conference on opportunities within the emerging hemp and cannabis industry. The objective of the gathering is to provide an educational forum, seek strategies to create long-term partnerships in the hemp and cannabis sectors that can establish intergenerational wealth within Indigenous communities with responsible corporate partners nationally and internationally.  

Kawacatoose First Nation is located in southeastern Saskatchewan and is in the Treaty 4 Territory with a population of just over 3,000 members. The nation is an affiliate of the Touchwood Agency Tribal Chiefs organization. It is a vibrant community fostering self-sufficiency and promoting an improved a quality of life by provide meaningful economic opportunities within the community and behond for its large and growing young population. 

Digital Buffalo is a Saskatoon-based company owned and operated by Cheryl Maurice, a member of the English River First Nation located in northern Saskatchewan. Ms. Maurice is involved in creating partnerships along with Kawacatoose First Nation and in promoting the concept of unity to build meaningful partnerships and develop effective training programs in hemp and cannabis industries. 

The event will take place March 19 & 20, 2018 and will feature speakers who are experts in this industry. The event will features breakfasts, lunches, a mixer, a tradeshow, Indigenous entertainment and unique networking opportunities. A pre-conference workshop including brunch runs the afternoon of March 18.  

Indigenous entrepreneurs and communities in Saskatchewan are well positioned for success in the hemp and cannabis sectors and are eager to connect with hemp and cannabis sector industry leaders.
