What about the synthetic CBD’s and Marijuanas?

Synthetic marijuana’s and CBD oils, often marketed as K2, is a hallucinogen that can raise a person's blood pressure and cause reduced blood supply to the heart.

That’s what the people producing this garbage don’t want you to know. Also known as “Spice”, “K2” is what some people call “synthetic Marijuana”. Synthetic marijuana is really a misnomer for these drugs since their effects are vastly different than those induced by pot. Synthetic marijuana can be up to 100 times more potent than traditional marijuana.

Synthetic marijuana is a mixture of industrial chemicals intended to mimic the effects of THC, the naturally occurring active compound found in marijuana. The chemicals are sprayed on bits of dried plant material, packaged in colorful wrappers, nicknamed “poison packets,” and sold under the guise of potpourri and herbal incense in local convenience stores, smoke shops and even online. Synthetic marijuana use can lead to side effects like rapid heart rate, vomiting, agitation and hallucinations.

There is at least one similarity between synthetic marijuana and traditional pot. Both of the drug's main psychoactive ingredients bind to special receptors in the brain called CB1 receptors, a 2014 study published in the journal Current Addiction Reports details. Because spice is so much stronger than pot, however, it is much more likely to cause serious symptoms, including seizures and psychosis.

Between 2010 and 2015, more than 450 cases of synthetic cannabinoid intoxication were reported among patients treated by US medical toxicologists, according to the CDC. Of those cases, 277 (61%) were caused by spice alone, meaning no other drugs were involved. Three people died.

As a Paramedic, I was one of the first Paramedics in our region to have an overdose patient involving K2. It was vastly different than a normal overdose patient. The typical countermeasures a Paramedic would use for an opioid overdose have no real effect on a K2 OD. (Overdose). The only thing I could do was sedate the patient and maintain his airway while I monitored his heart. This was in 2010 when garbage like K2 started hitting the streets.

Officials in a Pennsylvania town say they have treated more than 60 people who overdosed on synthetic marijuana over a weekend period.

Executive Director of Lancaster Emergency Medical Services Bob May tells Lancaster Online first responders received 65 overdose calls between Friday and Monday morning Fox News Reported.

Found in colorful packages, the sale of the drug began in the early 2000s and to date, there are more than 150 different compounds, CBS News reported in February. States across the country have made the compounds illegal, but new forms continue to hit the street and market, in new and ingenious fashions to circumvent laws.
