(WJHL) -The Tennessee Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications from farmers interested in working with the state to grow industrial hemp.
Last year, the General Assembly passed legislation to grow industrial hemp as part of research.
Hemp, which is often times mistakenly associated with marijuana, has numerous commercial uses from clothing to carpeting, insulation and even car panels.
According to a press release from Representative Matthew Hill, “studies continue to show legalizing the growth of hemp in the state would result in a multi-million dollar per year industry and would create thousands of jobs across Tennessee.”
