The fibre hemp industry continues to grow in the Upper Hunter, with plans to double the crop for the next growing season.
Ecofibre Industries is conducting hemp growing trials with farmers in and around Muswellbrook, Denman, Singleton and Jerrys Plains.
Managing director Phillip Warner says the number of growers is expanding and it will start planting out about 160 hectares this September.
"We grew roughly 80 hectares last year and we'll probably double that this year," he said.
"Next level after that we'll probably go into the 400 hectares and we'll probably double that again to 800.
"Our target is 1000 hectares in the Hunter Valley within five years."
