Oklahomans will have to wait a little longer for Hempfest.
The Hempfest was supposed to be held at Lost Lakes next month, but organizers said it won't be happening until next year.
"The big thing is to educate the people on the market that's coming to Oklahoma," event organizer Scott McKinley said to KOCO.
McKinley said the plan was to hold the big event next month with Snoop Dogg, but he said they are waiting on the hemp industry to make a bigger name in Oklahoma.
They believe that, if they wait and have the big event next June, Oklahoma will have a better chance at attracting more hemp businesses.
"We're bringing some of the biggest brands from the whole country here and those brands want to see stores developing in Oklahoma and Oklahoma having its own marketplace identity," he said.
Organizers will still have an event in Midwest City in September, a celebration on April 20, but the big event with Snoop Dogg won't be until June of next year.
"The claws are coming out in Oklahoma but we definitely want to unite everybody on the same mission," McKinley said.
