Hemp is one of the most versatile resources on the planet with more than 25,000 known applications.
Unfortunately, this incredibly valuable resource still maintains a bad reputation in the United States thanks to its relation to other psychoactive cannabis plants.
Hemp is entirely different from cannabis in the way it’s cultivated and in its application but was still grouped with the rest of the cannabis species as a schedule 1 Drug back in the 70s.
Though progress has been slow, as people begin to understand the many benefits of cannabis, the stigma that has unfairly attached itself to hemp is also fading away.
Here are just eight interesting products that can be made from hemp:
1.Fuel
Hemp is an environmentally safe and cost-efficient fuel crop. Hemp can be processed to produce two different kinds of fuel – hemp biodiesel and hemp ethanol/methanol.
2. Milk
Once soaked and ground in water, hemp seeds can produce some incredibly nutritious milk. The process of producing paper from trees also requires toxic chemicals and the end product can only be recycled three times. Hemp does not require chlorine bleaching the way wood paper does and it can be recycled seven times making it a much more eco-friendly option.
7. Makeup
Hemp is rich with antioxidants, amino acids and fatty acids that are great for the skin, making it a perfect, natural resource for makeup products. The vitamins found in hemp make it perfect for cosmetics that will reduce acne, keep your face clean and slow the aging process.
8. Paint
Most ordinary paint releases solvents called volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which are incredibly harmful for the environment. Hemp-based paint however does not contain these VOCs and is therefore safe for the environment and safe to breathe around. It dries quickly, is durable and has a very reliable finish.
Of course, hemp has thousands of other uses, often which are healthier and more sustainable than what we’re using now. Hopefully as the plant becomes more widely accepted, it will replace other products that we’re using that are far less sustainable and harmful than hemp.
