Global Prohibition for CBD in Professional Sports Ends with Rule Change

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has officially removed cannabidiol (CBD) from its Prohibited Substances List.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), a standard-setter for anti-doping guidelines in the Olympics and many sports leagues, just announced the removal of cannabidiol (CBD) from its list of banned substances in 2018.
The move will enable athletes around the world to benefit from the pain-relieving, non-psychoactive cannabinoid compound without worrying about disqualifications or other penalties from regulators.
CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid studied as an anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and neuroprotectant. WADA reports "cannabidiol is no longer prohibited as it does not mimic the effects of THC." WADA clarifies that marijuana is "still a prohibited substance" not applicable to Phivida's full-spectrum CBD hemp oil extract from permitted hemp farms, rich in CBD, but less than 0.3% THC, for full compliance with WADA and US federal laws according to MarketInsider.com.
While CBD will be permitted next year, the WADA notes that CBD extracted from the cannabis plant may also contain varying concentrations of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which remains a prohibited substance. This means that athletes will need to exercise extreme caution when taking CBD products to ensure that they contain zero trace of THC. Extensive drug testing will be in place to ensure that there are no trace amounts of the banned psychoactive cannabinoid.
In 2015, the WADA tested over 300,000 athletes worldwide with around 4% showing signs of cannabinoids in their system, which under previous regulations included CBD and would automatically disqualify any athlete testing positive. Under the new regulations, even trace amounts of THC could disqualify athletes, which makes it important to ensure that any CBD products consumed contain absolutely no THC content.
That being said, the anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, analgesic properties of CBD Oil made from industrial Hemp can be a real "Game Changer" (pun intended) for professional athletes across the Globe, especially in the realm of CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury)
Market Insider.com:
"In a recent neuropathology study, 99% of former NFL players tested positive for Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a disease found in many athletes with multiple concussions and traumatic brain injuries and is often treated with addictive pain killers. The Center for Disease Control reports opioid-overdoses have quadrupled since 1999. The NFL endorses studies of cannabinoids to treat pain and inflammation, opiate-free, but currently suspends players for testing positive for THC, and has yet to respond to WADA's new rules on CBD." This change will affect many athletes world wide ranging from the Olympics, MMA, Football, Baseball, Hockey and many, many more.
Stay Healthy!
