When decorating and renovating our 120-year-old home we try to use quality, environmentally-friendly products whenever possible. We even get a little creative in our pursuit of all things “green”. This window features several eco-friendly items. The wood has been finished with Hemp Wood, a finishing oil made from hempseed oil, from Oilseed Works in Barrie, Ontario www.oilseedworks.com
The curtain rod itself was made from a dead branch on a cedar tree. After removing the bark and sanding the branch it was finished with Hemp Wood oil. Long lasting metal rings were used to attach the curtain rod to the curtain. The rod is held in place with stylish forged hooks from Lee Valley www.leevalley.com (item 01X01.20). The black, “hand-forged hooks” come with mounting hardware and look great fitting in nicely with our century home.
The curtains are largely made of hemp. The quality, environmentally-friendly material came from Effort Industry Inc. This Scarborough-based company has a good selection of eco-fabrics (hemp, bamboo) as well as clothes and other items made from hemp, bamboo and soy www.efforts.ca
