The research of a Henry County agriculture student will be included in a display at the Kentucky Capitol building in Frankfort next week.
Caleb Brannon of Puryear is one of the Murray State University undergraduates whose research will be highlighted at the 14th annual “Posters-at-the-Capitol” event Feb. 19.
The daylong event showcases undergraduate research from nine different Kentucky universities.
Brannon is one of 16 MSU undergraduates who will have a poster summarizing their research.
His poster is titled “The Effect of Row Spacing, Plant Population, and Maturity Levels on Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD) Levels in Agricultural Hemp.”
His mentors on the project are Tony Brannon, dean of college’s School of Agriculture, and Jason Robertson, manager of the university’s farm center.
Brannon’s research summary points out the 2014 federal farm bill allowed institutions of higher learning to conduct research on agricultural hemp.
As Kentucky already had legalized hemp research, the bill opened the door for MSU to begin the nation’s first legal hemp research project.

Posters will be displayed on the second floor of the capitol. According to the brochure for the event, Brannon’s poster will be located in the center of the building, just to the left of the State Reception Room. The poster is slated to be on display from 9 a.m.-3 p.m..
