LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - At least five pilot projects will reintroduce hemp in Kentucky.
Agriculture Commissioner James Comer says farmers will work with university researchers to study the crop.
Hemp production was banned several decades ago by the federal government for its ties to marijuana.
A new farm bill will permit the growth of pilot projects for research in states that allow hemp to be grown.
Farmers say the size of the hemp crop will depend on the availability of seeds.
