The potential remedies that CBD Oil can offer as it battles a wide array of disease pathophysiology’s is staggering!

A question that is on many people’s minds though, is “how can CBD treat dementia and Alzheimer’s patients?”

This one is personal to me, because my mother had dementia and Alzheimer’s symptoms before she passed away. To walk into her hospital room with my son, and have her not even recognize us was one of the most horrific things to happen to me in my lifetime; and that’s saying something! I was a street Paramedic and a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy. I have seen some nasty things in my time on Gods great Earth.

Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer's disease accounts for 60 to 80 percent of dementia cases.

An estimated 5.7 million Americans of all ages are living with Alzheimer's dementia in 2018. This number includes an estimated 5.5 million people age 65 and older and approximately 200,000 individuals under age 65 who have younger-onset Alzheimer's.

Alzheimer's disease is frequently associated with neuropsychiatric symptoms such as agitation and aggression, especially in the moderate to severe stages of the illness. Over the past few years, there has been a growing interest in the therapeutic potential of medications that target the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The behavioral effects of ECS medications, as well as their ability to modulate neuroinflammation and oxidative stress, make targeting this system potentially relevant in Alzheimer's disease.

So, Can CBD oil help treat Alzheimer’s and dementia patients?

Yes. It can, but research on the matter is far from being complete.

THC can as well one study shows. According to the SunTimes.com,

            “New research published in The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease finds that administering cannabis extracts containing THC to Alzheimer’s patients helped relieve various symptoms of dementia, including agitation, aggression, apathy and delusions.

The small trial conducted by Israeli researchers studied 11 Alzheimer’s patients who were given medical cannabis oil containing THC over the course of four weeks. Of the 10 patients that completed the trial, researchers recorded “significant reduction” in behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia.

Researchers concluded that “adding medical cannabis oil to Alzheimer’s disease patients’ pharmacotherapy is a safe and promising treatment option.”

Another study from the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California has also found that THC and CBD found in marijuana may reduce the amount of beta amyloid in the brain. Beta amyloid is a hallmark characteristic of Alzheimer’s and is commonly thought to cause the neurodegenerative disease according to Alzheimers.net.
