Dementia and Alzheimer's symptoms could be reduced by taking cannabis CBD oil supplements, research has claimed.
Cannabidiol oil is a natural supplement, sourced from cannabis plants. Despite the name, it’s not addictive, and could be used to treat a number of medical conditions, research has revealed. Made from Industrial Hemp and containg less than 0.03% THC, CBD Oil has many positive benefits to the human body.
Although dementia mainly affects older people, it is not a normal part of ageing. Worldwide, around 50 million people have dementia, and there are nearly 10 million new cases every year. Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia and may contribute to 60–70% of cases according to the W.H.O.
"Dementia is a syndrome – usually of a chronic or progressive nature – in which there is deterioration in cognitive function (i.e. the ability to process thought) beyond what might be expected from normal ageing. It affects memory, thinking, orientation, comprehension, calculation, learning capacity, language, and judgement. Consciousness is not affected. The impairment in cognitive function is commonly accompanied, and occasionally preceded, by deterioration in emotional control, social behaviour, or motivation.
Dementia results from a variety of diseases and injuries that primarily or secondarily affect the brain, such as Alzheimer's disease or stroke.
Dementia is one of the major causes of disability and dependency among older people worldwide. It is overwhelming not only for the people who have it, but also for their carers and families. There is often a lack of awareness and understanding of dementia, resulting in stigmatization and barriers to diagnosis and care. The impact of dementia on carers, family and societies can be physical, psychological, social and economic.

Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, depression, PTSD, Chrohns, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Arthritis, Gout, GERD, MS, MD and cardiovascular disease patients could all benefit from taking cannabidiol oil supplements, according to studies.
Alzheimer’s patients could benefit from the supplement’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, scientists have claimed. The anti-inflammatory properties would also benefit rheumatoid arthritis and cardiovascular disease patients, they added.
Cannabidiol oil has anti-proliferative properties too, which means it could help to prevent cancer spreading in some people
The oil could also be used as an “effective treatment” for epilepsy and many other ailments, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Recently, the FDA approached the United Nations (U.N.) and the World Health Organization (W.H.O.), acknowledging the potential benefits of CBD Oils and asked the W.H.O. for a ruling on the matter.
FDA officials had put out a call for comments in the Federal Register, seeking information about CBD and how the UN’s World Health Organization (WHO) should designate it under the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances. In doing so, the FDA acknowledged the ‘beneficial’ effects CBD has shown in patients with neurological disorders.
FDA Deputy Commissioner Anna K. Abram, who sent out the notice this morning, acknowledged that “CBD has been shown to be beneficial in experimental models of several neurological disorders, including those of seizure and epilepsy.”
Recently, the W.H.O. released a report on the CBD matter.
"According to a preliminary WHO report published last month, naturally occurring CBD is safe and well tolerated in humans (and animals), and is not associated with any negative public health effects [PDF].
Experts further stated that CBD, a non-psychoactive chemical found in cannabis, does not induce physical dependence and is "not associated with abuse potential." The WHO also wrote that, unlike THC, people aren't getting high off of CBD, either.
"To date, there is no evidence of recreational use of CBD or any public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD," they wrote. In fact, evidence suggests that CBD mitigates the effects of THC (whether joyous or panicky), according to this and other reports.
The WHO team determined that CBD has "been demonstrated as an effective treatment for epilepsy" in adults, children, and even animals, and that there's "preliminary evidence" that CBD could be useful in treating Alzheimer's disease, cancer, psychosis, Parkinson's disease, and other serious conditions." More conclusive research needs to occur on the potential uses and treatments that CBD Oil can accomplish. Although some universities and colleges across the globe ARE doing research, they most certainly could use more socio-political support on the matter.
