The Industrial Hemp Program in Kentucky is looking for a few good farmers.
They're accepting applications for next year's pilot projects.
Farmers in Union County say hemp production could be big in the future if it's profitable.
"Oh I'd say it'd be fine, if there's a market for it and we can raise it in this area, then it'd be good," said Randy Hagan, a farmer in Waverly. "Any kind of other production would be a great help, any kind of added income, yes."
Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner James Comer hopes farmers will research hemp production, processing, manufacturing and marketing and jump on board.
If they do, Comer says it could help establish Kentucky as the epicenter of America's industrial hemp industry once the remaining legal barriers of hemp production are removed.
"Yeah, you hear a lot of people talk about whether it's marijuana or the same as marijuana, the way I understand it, it's not," said Hagan.
The online application for the 2016 pilot program is due November 5th.
The application can be found here.
