Debbie Mathew blends a smoothie at her home in Laramie. The Fruity Green Smoothie is packed with nutrients, healthy proteins and fats from vegetables, seeds, nuts and supplements.

Debbie Mathew, of Laramie, created this smoothie recipe exclusively for Live Well Wyoming readers.
It's jam-packed with nutrients, healthy proteins and fats from fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and supplements.
Mathew suggests starting out with more fruit and less greens, until your palette adjusts to the subtler tastes within the greens.
"Slowly move toward less sweets and more greens," she said. "The greener it is, the more healthy it is for you."
You can use whichever type of fruits you like and adjust ingredients to taste.
Mathew prefers to use organic ingredients to reduce toxins and support local farmers.
Ingredients:
1 cup fruit, (half a banana; strawberries or mixed berries.)
1 tablespoon goji berries, presoaked for 30 minutes (optional)
1 cup coconut or almond milk or rice milk
1/2 - 1 cup packed greens, such as spinach, lettuce or chard (You can also use 1/4 to 1/3 cup of cooked greens.)
1/3 to 1/2 avocado
1 tablespoon soaked or ground flax seeds or chia seeds
1 tablespoon hemp seeds, or raw nuts such as cashews or almonds or nut butter (raw almond butter)
Supergreen powder – this is a supplement blend of whole foods high in antioxidants, enzymes, phyto-nutrients and pro-biotics. Often called green superfood, the green powder can be found at health foods stores. Look for one that has a minimum of three pro-biotic microorganisms, and 10 is even better, Mathew suggests. It has a strong taste, so start out with a half teaspoon, and add more as you acclimate to the taste.
Instructions:
Put all the ingredients except for hemp seeds or nuts into the blender, and blend until it is smooth. If using nuts, add and blend until you have small chunky bits, so you can chew your smoothie. If using hemp seeds, just stir them in with a spoon. Savor each mouthful with delight in all the goodness that you are nourishing your body with.
