WASHINGTON, D.C. (WYMT)- Kentucky's Agriculture Commissioner James Comer visited Washington D.C. Friday.
The Lexington Herald Leader reports Comer met with federal agencies, Republican leaders and White House officials about the possibility of Kentucky growing hemp.
Comer says he hoped Kentucky would get a waiver from the government to be the first state to reintroduce the crop to the U.S. market, but he now thinks that is unlikely. The main obstacle remains with the drug enforcement administration.
The D.E.A. does not differentiate between hemp and marijuana. Comer says he is hoping the issue will catch attention at the national level.
