A new brand promoting the legalization of agricultural hemp as a sustainable crop in the US
LOS ANGELES, California—November 12, 2015— Hemp Blue is an incredible, new denim and apparel brand with a cause. The recently announced brand is promoting the legalization of agricultural hemp as a sustainable crop in the United States. While their first collection isn’t made entirely out of hemp, their goal is to create an environmentally friendly denim brand, made entirely out of agricultural hemp.
Hemp Blue is supporting the movement to legalize industrial hemp farming in the US. Growing industrial hemp is already legal in almost every industrialized nation including Canada, Russia, China, most of Europe, Argentina and Chile. These countries are making millions of dollars of hemp textiles a year while saving the environment. When people hear about hemp, they immediately compare it to marijuana. But what many don’t know is that hemp as an agricultural crop is chemically and genetically different from “weed.” A person actually can’t get high from hemp. Yet, the American government classifies this agricultural crop in the same category as heroin, as a schedule one drug.
Hemp requires no pesticides, fungicides, or herbicides and adds nitrates back into the soil whereas fifty-percent of all chemicals used in American agriculture today are used in growing cotton. It uses one-third less water than cotton when being grown and half as much water when being processed. One acre of hemp will produce as much paper as two to four acres of trees. Not to mention, Hemp breathes in four times the carbon dioxide of trees. It can make food, clothing, shelter, bio-plastic, car parts, and 20,000 other things!
That’s why Hemp Blue is not only an incredible, stylish denim and apparel company but a brand with the goal of informing those that hemp is the way for a sustainable future.
