The Dr. Oz Show, 11/23/2014, focused on rebooting your body naturally to get more energy and a natural way to boost your immunity with a veggie that many of us throw away after Halloween. Many people experience a “slow down” during the day and reach for an energy drink, coffee, or sweets like chocolate to give them a boost. Oz says these solutions only give a person a temporary boost of energy and can cause an even bigger drop in energy levels as they wear off. The best way to keep your body revved up all day is to eat the right foods that are known to give you a boost that lasts a long time without a severe fallout afterwards.
Natural Ways To Reboot Energy
Protein is fuel for the body and Oz says starting the day with protein will keep you energized all day long. He recommends we eat an egg for breakfast as they provide almost 11% of the daily recommended protein we need.
Hemp Seeds contain both protein and fiber. Oz says using these during the day by sprinkling them on fruit or adding them to a smoothie will keep your energy levels up all day long. Oz warns that the nutrients in Hemp are lost when they are heated so it is important to eat them “raw.”
Red Lentils are high in protein and iron. Oz says eating these at lunch in a soup or salad will regulate your iron levels. Iron deficiency will cause a person to be sluggish. Oz believes the combination of iron and protein in red lentils are a one two punch against mid day burnout.
Peanut Butter and Fig is a great way to get protein and fiber and it will help satisfy your sweet tooth. Oz says this snack is healthy and it will give you a boost without busting your waistline.
Pumpkin Immunity Booster and Sleep Aid
Oz says it is hard to go anywhere this time of year and not see a pumpkin. He adds pumpkin is loaded with fiber and also helps boost immunity. This is one veggie where the canned version actually outperforms the real version as canned pumpkin contains more fiber since all the water is removed. Oz says it is easy to incorporate pumpkin into your diet.
Oz says the best way to eat pumpkin is to slice it and bake it for about 30 minutes. Just add a little cinnamon and enjoy. For breakfast, Oz says adding canned pumpkin to a bowl of oatmeal will load you up on fiber and keep you feeling full all morning.
Pumpkin seeds contain tryptophan. This is the chemical that will help you sleep better at night. Just roast the seeds for about 30 minutes and add pumpkin spice for flavor. Oz says eating these at dinner will help you fall asleep and stay asleep.
Oz says anyone can use these natural solutions and incorporate them into their diets.
