The awesome folks at Hemptique sent me some of their sustainable hemp products to craft with, and they’re generously offering up a prize pack to one Crafting a Green World reader!
David from Hemptique and I had a great conversation about sustainable crafting and which products you guys would be most excited about. What we settled on was a rainbow selection of their beautiful cording, including some metallic cording! Who says that eco-crafting is all about earth tones?

Hemp Products from Hemptique
David at Hemptique also sent me a box of their goodies to play with. My box had:
- a sample cards of their sustainable cord
- a full spool of their black and silver cord
- 8 feet of their webbing
Everything is just beautiful, and I am in love with this metallic cord! I think that I’m going to use it to wrap my holiday gifts this year. I use the brown paper from Amazon packages as giftwrap, and this cord will really jazz up my holiday gifts!
What I was most excited about, though, was the webbing. I have made a lot of tote bags, you guys, and finding webbing that’s eco-friendly is basically impossible. Sure, you can make your own straps, but sometimes you want the simple, sturdy look of webbing straps.
Most webbing you find at the fabric story is polyester (aka toxic plastic) or made from dirty conventional cotton. When I saw that they offered a more sustainable alternative to conventional webbing, I knew that I wanted some to use in a tutorial. Look out for that coming on Saturday!
The webbing was a joy to work with, and it behaved just like any other webbing but without the green guilt. I love the hemp and bamboo cord options they sent, too! The hemp cord is more rigid, so it would work well for packaging or making jewelry. The bamboo is soft but strong, and I could see their bamboo twine replacing conventional baker’s twine made from dirty cotton.
