I was recently in Winnipeg to celebrate the wedding of Mike Bronner and Erin Trudeau. I flew up a few days early to meet up with HIA President Steve Levine and some of the Bronner family and guests. On Saturday June 18th, Adam Eidinger of Mintwood Media and I traveled to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba to visit
Chris McCallister's farm and see a hemp crop which was just coming up. It has been a
very wet spring and Canadian farmers like Chris planted later than usual due to standing water in the fields. Chris farms about 800 acres and has 56 acres of CFX-1 hemp planted this season. This is a newer variety that is a cross between Crag and Finola. The plants were coming up nicely as you can see from the photo above. All indications point to a significant increase in hemp acreage this year.
