EAST BURKE, Vt. —In an effort to connect and engage with Vermonters statewide, Heady Vermont is proud to help organize, “Cannabis in the Kingdom: The Present and Future Potential for the NEK”, hosted and sponsored by The Parker Pie Company in West Glover, VT and taking place on Tuesday, April 25 starting at 7pm. This event is being held in conjunction with the first Vermont Cannabis Week, taking place April 19-26.

The event will take place in the back room of Parker Pie and include regular Tuesday specials, including $2 select drafts and taco specials. The format will be an informal discussion hosted and moderated by Eli Harrington, Heady Vermont Editor and Co-Founder and will feature Representative Sam Young (D-Glover) and other invited speakers who will discuss hemp cultivation in Vermont.
Said Harrington about the thought behind the event and the appeal of hosting an event in the most rural and least populated part of the state:
“When we started talking about a Vermont Cannabis Week and looking at possible events for the spring, I thought it was really important that we try to organize something in the Northeast Kingdom–I’ve lived up here all winter and I’m at least a few decades from being a local, but it was pretty clear that there’s a ton of interest in cannabis topics, especially in industrial hemp.
Harrington said that the event will touch on the various cannabis reforms being discussed in Montpelier, feature information about the Vermont Medical Marijuana Registry, but also emphasize the potential of legal hemp and CBD products to impact working landscapes in the region.
“If you look back at Vermont history, the Fairbanks Brothers invented the Platform Scale to weigh hemp and today you’ve got Green Mountain CBD growing and selling Vermont hemp products and creating economic activity in Hardwick–last year they harvested 7,000 plants! There are plenty of Vermonters with land up here thinking about different possibilities, so we’re excited to share information and generally provide a space for people to network and talk to each other.”
Representative Sam Young, whose family goes back multiple generations in Glover and who currently represents the district in Montpelier is a sponsor of H.490, a bill that would legalize and regulate sales of cannabis to adults over the age of 21. He will be appearing at the event to share insight into the political status and possible path for his bill, along with the legalization and criminal justice reform bill, H.170, which is currently being discussed in the House Human Services Committee.
‘Cannabis in the Kingdom: The Present and Future Possibilities for the NEK’ is being held in conjunction with Vermont Cannabis Week, an event program developed by the Vermont Cannabis Association (VCA) and partnering organizations to promote cannabis culture in the state of Vermont. The Vermont Cannabis Association is a statewide organization dedicated to positively engaging and representing the diverse interests and voices of Vermont’s cannabis community.
Other sponsors will be announced as the date approaches.
Address: Parker Pie – 161 County Rd. West Glover, VT 05875 – (802) 525-3366. More details about the event are available at HeadyVermont.com. RSVP on Facebook.
