Choosing bath linens: Choose hemp

Decorator Secret:
Choosing bath linens
Choices:
Choosing bath linens can be fun and they really set the tone or style of the room, but beyond choosing the style of your linens, you also have to choose the materials. For everyday towels, look for 100 percent cotton. High end towels are made of Egyptian or Turkish cotton or Pima. Grams per square meter indicate the fabric’s density. A higher number means a thicker towel.
If you are environmentally conscious and want to look at a “green” alternative, look at organic cotton, hemp or bamboo. Bamboo has antibacterial qualities, and both bamboo and hemp are mildew-resistant.
A natural cotton alternative is the European style waffle weave towel. The smooth finish is fuzz free and absorbent, and the towel dries quickly and gets softer with each washing.
