The flat farmlands in Southeastern Colorado are covered with bountiful melons, corn, wheat and other market produce.
And with the passing of Amendment 64 this fall, marijuana's far-less potent cousin — hemp — may soon be popping up as a cash crop in fields across the dusty plains.
A group called Hemp Cleans wants to bring the hemp-farming industry to Southeastern Colorado.
The group has scheduled a public discussion on the issue Jan. 26 in Walsh at 7 p.m. at the Gem Theater.
They have set up a discussion of the legal structure of the Colorado Industrial Hemp Remediation Pilot Program Act of 2012 as well as the 2013 version of the bill, sponsored by state Sen. Gail Schwartz, D-Snowmass Village.
